Norway Rat Control

The Norway Rat is a large rodent that can grow up to 10 to 12 inches long, generally weighing less than one pound. These rats can range in color from gray to brown to black. It is most common for rats to enter homes and businesses in the fall when the plants and seeds they depend on for sustenance become scarce, so they go in search of a new food source.

In the wild, rats generally live in wooded areas, fields, farmland, and vacant lots. The rodents are good climbers and can enter a building through a hole as small as a quarter. They often gain access through holes in gable vent screens, the point where cable wires enter a building, roof vents, and under garage doors. They may also make themselves at home in stacked firewood, piles of leaves, bricks, stones, and other debris. Blocking access to areas of entry and eliminating harborage around the home or commercial building is an essential part of rat control.

Pack Rat and Wood Rat Control

These medium sized rodents are usually about eight inches long and have a tail that is slightly shorter than the head and body. The colors may include cinnamon, brown, grey, creamy buff or yellow-gray, with an underside that is lighter in color than the rest of the body. They are found in most areas of the county with the exception of the northeast and Great Lakes regions.

Pack rats are named for their habit of hoarding shiny, brightly-colored objects. Some of their favorites include tabs from beer cans, foil, bottle caps, jewelry, and coins. The rodents are usually nocturnal, but can be active in the daytime hours. Once they have gained access to a building, they will continue to forage outside, as well as stealing food inside the home or commercial building.

Like most rat species, pack rats are good climbers and may nest in trees or in the ground with several sharing a single den. Seal holes and cracks in your home or commercial building and eliminate harborage outdoors to deter rodents from entering your property.
